So, canonization procedure? I mean, for an Icon of Mental Health, it doesn’t get better than Carrie.
For sainthood, somebody needs to identify a miracle she’s performed. Come on, there must be at least a few dozen among all the awesome Carrie stories out there!
Okay, this is all great, and I am here for it, but can we please remember that she was Jewish? Using Christian imagery with all this is not okay, because she was Jewish.
As much as I miss my grandparents sometimes, I am glad that as two holocaust survivors they didn’t have to live to see this. Grandpa loved this country. It would have broken his heart to see it like this.
So what’s with this narrative going around like “the left-wing created Trump by being too mean and calling people racists!”
What are you supposed to do when someone IS racist? Coddle them and kiss their ass while they go on being racist because you’re afraid of their retaliation? I’d say it looks more like the left-wing, as well as neutrals and moderate right-wingers, have done that quite a bit already. How about the possibility that the rhetoric these past few years wasn’t harsh enough? That maybe mainstream Democrats and others spent too much fucking time having weak “civil debates” and “agreeing to disagree” with white supremacists and that’s what gave them all these inches they turned into miles?
That’s it. That’s how we got here. By always insisting that politely listening to “both sides” is more important than doing what’s right; by ridiculing dissenting voices as “callout culture” and by not explicitly calling racist shit out for what it is (to protect white fragility).
As a mother I would say.. that is rude and not nice. Act like your Grandma is watching and be an upstanding person.
Pfft. Idk about YOUR grandmother 😒, but I can assure you that mine would not have been down with playing a round of “both sides”
&
respectability politics while Nazis were taking over. She would have been looking at me funny if I kept my black ass quiet in the face of injustice and fascism.
If Jesus can get mad & flip tables in a church, the least I can do is be rude to Nazis and Nazi sympathizers. (sorry, but my grandmother was a preacher and a community activist, so you’re barking up the wrong tree)
That “be an upstanding person” okie doke is played out, and it won’t work on me because I understand that an essential part of being a “good person” involves calling Nazis, Nazis. Being a “good person” doesn’t mean always being polite, or being a “lukewarm moderate” like you seem to be saying you and your grandma are.
My grandma is dead, but I’m pretty sure she’d have been OK with me punching a Nazi in the face. You can’t be kind to cruel people. They just see you as weak.
THANK YOU !!
I’m just gonna assume that jaquablue has never met a Jewish grandmother, because let me tell you, my grandma Crane would be throwing the first punches towards a Nazi. I am not about to shame my people by staying quiet. I will rebel until my dying breath l, and furthermore, anything good enough for Captain America and my grandma, is good enough for me. Thank you and fuck you.
