• humming under his breath while hunting and pecking away at his keyboard, typing up the last case while sherlock scoffs over his shoulder
• singing lullabies to all the children he encounters oh god lestrade’s little girl, the one baby left at a rather unfortunate crime scene, the kid left with him at the clinic while his mother was taken to be examined
• soft love songs while he and sherlock sway in the middle of the sitting room because it’s late and he asked and sherlock, against all odds, gave a quirk of a grin and said yes
• singing loudly and driving down the road because he borrowed a police car to run back to the crime scene and now he’s blasting rock and hitting the steering wheel in time with the drums
• getting drunk and singing pop songs horribly well and his voice is like dark chocolate and sherlock’s suddenly sober and when john kisses him he swear he can taste the music
